1 John 3:6

No one who lives in Him keeps on sinning.
No one who continues to sin has either seen Him or known Him.

Does that mean that we can sin no more? Or that because we live in Him means that a sin is not a sin, but a forgiven sin?

In the first case my daily actions prove this wrong, in which case is John saying that someone who sins is definately not a Christian? In which case heaven is going to be a pretty small party.

Or perhaps we continue to sin because we don’t fully know him – as Paul writes of looking through a window darkly shadowed. Therefore as we continue to journey and get to know Him then we journey towards a sinless state. Is that possible?

Such a direct statement though is hard to avoid – if you sin you are not living in him.

Any further thoughts?
